" I am involved in the process of painting, engaging with the medium, working and turning it into forms for expression. The approach to this type of work is important as far as there is no predetermined outcome, it is to be completely open with a limited control, allowing the paint to find its own limitations and values. An example to this is how turpentine might be added by spraying it onto the paint to create bleeding on the canvas. The atmosphere of the room and how the paint mixes with the turps and then dries will all contribute to the outcome, thus giving the artist a limited influence on the drying process. The process is about a journey between the artist and the materials: developing an understanding and a way to evolve. Intuition from the artist to responding in the process is equally important, the intuition is like running on unleveled rocks, each step is different to the other, you do not have time to think through each step that you make: it is intuitive. The brain acts on one’s experience of running, jumping, balance etc. When painting in this way the brain’s experience also responds to colour, texture tone, and mark making etc. The rhythm of thought is like the rhythm of running over the unleveled ground." -Aron Burton
